We turn young people into leaders who run their own YEP programs

Some start as YEP tutors, others just have an idea. We give them the training and coaching to lead a program for adults and seniors in their own community.

  1. 1Youth pitch their ideasA program that would help adults and seniors in their community.
  2. 2We train and coach them24 hours of group training and at least 10 hours of one-on-one coaching.
  3. 3Youth lead their own programsWith a program budget we build with them and our team behind them, in their own communities.

Daniel brought YEP programs to two communities

“YEP was my introduction to leadership. It helped me build my leadership skills, and it was a stepping stone: I kept growing and taking on more opportunities, and eventually became Youth Director at my local nonprofit youth organization.”

For Youth Initiative (FYI), the local nonprofit youth organization Daniel goes to, was running a YEP program at its location. Daniel joined as a tutor. He didn’t think he had the patience to teach an adult, but he gave it a try.

It turned out he was a natural. “Sometimes, when you are teaching them, the seniors start telling you their stories, everything they have been through in their lives. You build a connection,” he says. Daniel loved it, and kept coming back to the program.

After a couple of years, he wanted to run the program himself. He started leading it at FYI, and a few months later brought it to another community he knew well, where he’d noticed adults and seniors having trouble learning.
